Jeannie Martinson

March 2025 - April 2025

Jeannie has been an artist her entire life. The daughter of a craft store owner, she was able to express her creativity early through many mediums. Her creativity was enhanced by picking up skills like manufacturing her own metal jewelry, by silversmithing with torch and anvil work.

When her brother was struggling with chemotherapy, she took up crochet and knitting to make him hats and scarves so that he could be more comfortable at his lengthy medical sessions. She began painting miscellaneous items used in the yard as in lawn tractors and watering cans with bright whimsical flowers. She gave them to her friends and neighbors who placed them in their homes as artwork instead of their yards.

Now, she has expanded her pallet to watercolor painting. While recuperating from foot surgery, she took online classes as well as watching hours of YouTube videos. She even connected with a 14-year-old oil painting prodigy whose friendship became more important to her than the painting tips.

Her innate artistic ability began to emerge and the quest for results became a passion for the process. Mixing and matching the paints, the brushes, and the paper are more fun to her than the results of those endeavors.

Kaelyn Albert

July 2024 - September 2024

Kaelyn Albert is an art education major at Eastern Illinois University who graduates Fall 2024. Born in Decatur, Illinois and is now living in Charleston, Illinois. She likes to paint in oil, watercolor and acrylic the most but dabbles in a little bit of every medium and likes to have multiple mediums in some of her work. Kaelyn expresses herself through these mediums as it is a very comforting process. Most of the pieces she creates do not look like they have meaning from first glance but each has a story to tell of its own. Focusing on using subjects like cats, anime, cartoons, and nostalgic things from her childhood she finds creative freedom to express herself. Nostalgic things like video games (specifically Nintendo), y2k (early 2000s), Sanrio, Hamtaro, cartoons, anime, toys, etc are things she enjoys the most to include in her work at times even though not seen in every piece here today.
Art has always been there for her and she hopes through the art of teaching she can help spread the joy of creativity through the next many generations to come.
