Mattoon Lightworks, established in 1991, is a beloved holiday tradition in Peterson Park, Mattoon, IL. The event features a captivating drive-through display of over 1 million lights, including both standard and animated designs. The light show is complemented by themed displays and seasonal decorations, creating a festive atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Sponsored by numerous local businesses and organizations and supported by local volunteers, Mattoon Lightworks not only provides a magical experience but also supports community initiatives through its fundraising efforts.
Meet Stretchy the Elf
We’re so excited to announce that Stretchy the Elf, straight from the North Pole, will be returning to Mattoon Lightworks! Stretchy will be spreading holiday cheer by sneaking around the park, helping Santa update the Nice and Naughty List.
Each week, Stretchy will hide in a new spot, and we’ll share clues to help you track him down! Will you be the first to spot where he’s hiding?

One of the highlights of visiting the Santa House is the chance to meet Santa Claus in person! Children can share their holiday wishes, take photos, and enjoy a truly memorable experience- FREE of cost. Santa is always excited to hear about the good deeds and wishes of all the little ones, and there’s nothing quite like seeing the joy on their faces when they meet the jolly man in red.
