Mattoon’s Holiday Spirit: Where it all Began
Mattoon Lightworks, established in 1991, is a beloved holiday tradition in Peterson Park, Mattoon, IL. The event features a captivating drive-through display of over 1 million lights, including both standard and animated designs. The light show is complemented by themed displays and seasonal decorations, creating a festive atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Sponsored by numerous local businesses and organizations and supported by local volunteers, Mattoon Lightworks not only provides a magical experience but also supports community initiatives through its fundraising efforts.
Meet Stretchy the Elf
Guess who’s making a return to Mattoon Lightworks this holiday season? That’s right… Stretchy the Elf!
But this year, Stretchy is doing things a little differently! Instead of moving to a new hiding spot each week, Stretchy will have a permanent home at the END of the Lightworks display.
As you make your way through the sparkling lights, be sure to keep an eye out for Stretchy waiting at the finish line. He’ll be there to wave goodbye, spread some holiday cheer, and send you on your merry way.
