Celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s independence by joining Mattoon for our Fourth of July festivities. With a lively parade, exciting airshow, spectacular fireworks, and a strong sense of community spirit, Mattoon offers visitors a true small-town American celebration you won’t forget.

*Entry Deadline- 3pm on July 15th*

Line-up will be posted by 4pm on July 16th

Late entrants are welcome to join the parade at the end but will not be listed in the official line up

Line-up: 8:00am on the west side of 21st and Western

Parade starts: 9:00am on the east side of 21st and Western (in front of Niemann’s and deBuhr’s)

Please note: the west side of the intersection is reserved for parade lineup  — for your safety and viewing pleasure, spectators are asked to please remain on the east side of the intersection.

Parade ends at First Street

4th of July Fireworks

(Location: Coles County Memorial Airport)

Mattoon and Charleston come together for this annual celebration of freedom and independence. Gates open at 4:00pm and Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Be sure to take advantage of the free bussing services. Pick up locations are:

  • O’Brien Stadium at EIU in Charleston 
  • Cross County Mall Parking lot in Mattoon

Busses will pick up on a 30 minute schedule starting at 4:00pm
